DX Performance Management 3.X - Improve service quality through proactive infrastructure management

DX Performance Management 3.X helps you proactively, efficiently and cost-effectively manage large distributed physical, virtual and cloud-based infrastructures to significantly improve service quality for both internal and external customers. The solution automates the recognition and display of relationships between different end devices in the network as well as the analysis of performance, error causes and data traffic in the network.

DX Performance Management 3.X is therefore particularly suitable for monitoring large, rapidly growing and complex IT environments. The solution provides a sophisticated visualization of the network infrastructure, data traffic and numerous measured variables. It is presented in the form of innovative dashboards with further options for detailed analysis. CDX Performance Management 3.X consists of three tightly integrated key components:

  • DX Spectrum detects, models and monitors the relationships between network endpoints and servers, and shows what events are causing outages to accelerate service recovery.
  • CA Network Flow Analysis provides an overview and behavioral analysis of network traffic, enabling administrators to allocate or prioritize bandwidth on a per-application basis.
  • DX Performance Management monitors the performance, availability and capacity of networks and servers at a high level and correlates this information with network data flow, application response time and other metrics to speed problem detection and resolution.
CA Infrastructure Management - Übersicht

This converged infrastructure management approach of DX Performance Management 3.X unifies the management of errors, performance, traffic, capacities, application response times and more. It aggregates vast amounts of scattered data into a single, instantly traceable overview and unified view. DX Performance Management 3.X can be integrated with other CA Service Assurance Management tools. This allows end user experience, transactions and applications to be linked to their underlying systems and network infrastructures. Other pre-integrated tools are:

  • CA Virtual Assurance for Infrastructure Managers is an add-on to CA's Enterprise Manager solutions that supports large virtual production environments. It improves operational visibility and control and promotes agility.
  • CA Systems Performance for Infrastructure Managers, formerly known as SystemEDGE Agent, helps achieve higher ROI through centralized, heterogeneous, physical systems management. Systems management can be extended to networks, databases and applications.
  • CA Unified Communications Monitor is a network-based voice and video monitoring solution that helps organizations ensure the quality of both the unified communications system and the service quality of the network.
  • DX Application Performance Management helps organizations more easily diagnose performance issues in mission-critical applications, ensuring an exceptional end-user experience. This is done through a 360-degree view that links transactions to the underlying infrastructure across all physical, virtual, cloud-based and mainframe environments.
  • CA Application Delivery Analysis, the Application Performance Management module of the CA Performance Center, captures and measures end-user response times without desktop or server agents. CA Application Delivery Analysis passively monitors each TCP application data packet transmitted over the network between clients and servers by providing metrics such as network, server and application latency for all mission-critical applications.
  • CA Mediation Manager is based on a flexible and scalable architecture and acts as a unified integration layer. This extends the reach to non IP and non SNMP infrastructures.

Using the CA Performance Center, DX Performance Management 3.X provides a central user interface for performance management that combines a variety of time series metrics into problem and technology specific dashboards. The basic package monitors infrastructure performance, availability, capacity, and data flow sizes using its own data collectors for SNMP and non-SNMP information. For long-term analysis, this data is stored in a dedicated, highly scalable database.

Innovative displays, tables, charts and calendar views eliminate the need to perform time-consuming searches in widely distributed sources to correlate data. By intuitively placing metrics on their dashboards, the solution helps set up root cause analysis workflows based on technical best practices.

Designed specifically for very large IT environments, DX Performance Management 3.X is capable of monitoring, storing and analyzing millions of performance data at very high speeds. Performance can be scaled linearly by adding additional computing capacity.

CA IM 2.0 Multi-Tenancy Architektur

The mandate capability of DX Performance Management 3.X enables IT departments and technical staff at managed service providers and enterprises to demarcate monitoring systems for each customer, department or location and still administer all clients via a central user interface. One client's data and IT environment is invisible to all other clients. This guarantees each client the highest level of confidentiality and data protection.
Clients are defined in DX Performance Management 3.X by the following characteristics:

  • IP domains
  • SNMP profiles
  • Administrator/User Accounts
  • rolls
  • Customer and system groups
  • Customer menus and dashboards

Highly scalable architecture

CA IM 2.0 Architektur

CA IM 2.0's highly scalable architecture meets the needs of the most demanding IT environments and fast-growing IT environments. The multi-tiered architecture has very low hardware requirements, is quick to deploy and easy to use and manage.

The multi-tier architecture of DX Performance Management consists of a data aggregator, a collector and a repository. The collector is one of the most scalable solutions on the market and can collect 500,000 data at a speed of 75,000 metrics per second.
The linear scalability of DX Performance Management 3.X enables massive parallel processing of data. If CPU power is added, the performance of the system increases in a ratio of 1:1. The multi-threaded function in the collector also avoids bottlenecks in data collection.

The storage capacity of the database can be scaled to hundreds of terabytes of data. The centralized cluster architecture also ensures that report requests do not compromise polling performance.
The Performance Center allows you to control a large number of individual items or groups at a glance. In addition, a visual correlation of the displayed data is possible. The autopopulation function ensures that new, updated data is continuously displayed on the dashboard when scrolling or scrolling.

Out-of-the-Box Dashboard- Views

CA IM 2.0-Dashboard

DX Performance Management 3.X comes with a set of technology-specific dashboard templates that accelerate troubleshooting and proactive response to network problems, reducing time to problem resolution.

The metrics are placed on dashboards based on best practices. This enables a workflow that actually leads faster to the root cause of problems. Measurement data is placed on dashboards in the same way that experienced administrators solve problems (Utilization, Discards, Errors).

In contrast, existing solutions always required a variety of Web pages and tools to be searched to gather the relevant information, which then had to be correlated.

With DX Performance Management 3.X, Level 1 administrators are now able to draw on Level 2 and Level 3 experience. This means that even less trained and experienced administrators can solve more problems.

Data sources automatically fill up with the latest data as each dashboard scrolls. A configuration wizard allows you to configure and customize the dashboards for each user.

Intelligent display of measured variables

CA IM 2.0 Darstellung von Messgrößen

DX Performance Management 3.X provides an innovative way to present the metrics of key indicators, significantly reducing troubleshooting time compared to previous infrastructure management approaches. Innvotive displays, tables, charts and calendars eliminate the time-consuming searches on multiple Web pages and reports to correlate data.

Combined display/table display eliminates the minutes of flipping back and forth required by other solutions. This made it almost impossible to correlate data and make decisions.

DX Performance Management 3.X's new “Calendar Heat Chart” display allows you to define performance patterns for many metrics. This prevents attempts to correlate information that would otherwise be scattered across many different charts, reports and web pages.

The color gradations can be edited and a timeframe can easily be set to fit the business cycles of the organization.

DX Performance Management 3.X self-certification

CA IM 2.0 Selbstzertifizierung

DX Performance Management 3.X includes a user-friendly self-certification mechanism. This represents a completely new concept of family (normalization) and manufacturer (manufacturer) measurand certification. Support for a new technology is simply complemented by adding the appropriate manufacturer support to the new measurand families. In addition, new manufacturer support for an existing technology can be added via a user-friendly certification wizard or via REST web services.

An integrated MIB compiler checks the imported MIB files for integrity and compatibility. This provides the opportunity to exchange certifications among members of a user community. New certifications are set up in production and recognized by the system without rebooting. This eliminates the need for shutdown and maintenance windows for the monitoring system. A WebServices interface is available for scripting and automation purposes.

CA Community and Customer Validation Program – Intensive Dialogue with Customers and Partners

CA IM 2.0 Community

When developing the “Next-Generation” Infrastructure Management, CA not only relies on years of experience in monitoring, but also involves customers and partners equally in product development. This gives you the opportunity to directly influence new functions and product releases. The central hub for the exchange of ideas is the CA Community and the Customer Validation Program – this is where customers, partners, developers and product managers meet to exchange and discuss problems and ideas.

In addition, CA Product Management invites webcasts at regular intervals in which new functions of the upcoming version are presented and subsequently discussed. More than 230 companies are currently participating in the Customer Validation Program and more than 200 suggestions for improvement and ideas have already been implemented.

In order to achieve the highest possible flexibility, transparency and quality in development and to do justice to the new community concept, the company has completely turned away from the traditional “waterfall” methodology in software development and is now using the modern approach of the “Agile Manifesto”. Not only has product quality been significantly improved, but the release cycle of new versions has also been reduced to a third of the time.

Integrated Single Sign-On (SSO)

CA IM 2.0 Single-Sign-On

Integrated Single Sign-On is available for the following data sources

  • DX Performance Management 3.X Data Aggregator
  • CA Network Flow Analysis
  • CA Application Delivery Analysis
  • CA Unified Communication Monitor

The SSO enables seamless drill-down to the consoles of the original consoles without the need for additional authentication.

Authentication methods are supported:

  • Original user management and authentication via DX Performance Management 3.X
  • External Authentication via Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
  • External authentication via SAML 3.0 (Security Assertion Markup Language)

Via the SSO of DX Performance Management 3.X, SSL-encrypted communication is also possible. SSO instances run on each individual Web console, the main instance runs on the user interface of the CA Performance Center. The login also takes place there.

For scripting and automation purposes, the solution has its own SOAP API.
Low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

The very economical configuration of DX Performance Management 3.X leads to both lower investment and operating costs. The new product and software architecture (Linux, 64-bit) has a positive effect on investment costs. Operating costs are reduced by using a smaller number of hosts and thus lower costs for administration, upgrades and installation. This also reduces the risk of downtime and the associated costs for troubleshooting/maintenance. Centralized administration also has a positive effect on operating costs.

The use of monitoring profiles simplifies the introduction of new monitoring services. The scope of delivery already includes a number of monitoring profiles that can be adapted by the user. The complex configuration of the tool can thus be carried out in one step. This ensures that consistent monitoring rules are adhered to.

Self-certification is a user-friendly mechanism that can be performed by the end user. This eliminates the need for administrators or external service providers.

Web services enable easy integration with other data sources based on other operating systems. An auto-configuration feature exists for:

  • Discovery
  • SNMP & Monitoring Profiles
  • Monitoring Profiles
  • event profiles

The data can be automatically integrated into external portals, on external websites or in external reports.
